THE TREATMENT

the reverse
of everything
else.

Every other massage technique works by pressing down into tissue. Cupping does the opposite. Suction cups gently lift the fascia and muscle tissue upward, creating negative pressure that goes deeper than hands ever could without heavy force. The result is a release that feels fundamentally different from traditional massage, because it is.

At Mellow & Mend, cupping is integrated into a full custom massage session — not tacked on at the end. Stationary cups hold sustained decompression over problem areas while mobile cups glide along fascial lines to improve circulation and mobility across the whole body. I shape the session around what your tissue needs.

HOW IT WORKS

Traditional massage compresses tissue. Cupping decompresses it. When a cup creates suction on the skin, it lifts the layers of fascia and muscle beneath — separating tissue that has become stuck, dense, or restricted. This creates space for fresh blood and oxygen to rush in, stagnant fluid to move out, and the fascia to regain its natural ability to glide.

It's particularly effective for areas where tissue feels dense, inflamed, or too sensitive for direct pressure — places where pushing in makes things worse, but lifting and separating lets everything let go.

TECHNIQUE ONE

Stationary Cupping

Cups are placed and held in position over areas of restriction — trigger points, adhesions, areas of chronic tightness. The sustained decompression encourages deep fascial release, breaks up scar tissue, and increases local circulation without requiring any movement or added pressure. Time does the work.

TECHNIQUE TWO

Mobile Cupping

Cups glide across the skin along muscle and fascial lines — working broader areas, improving circulation, and mobilizing tissue that's become restricted across longer spans of the body. The gliding movement stretches the fascia in a way stationary cupping can't, improving range of motion and reducing stiffness through the whole chain.

YOUR FIRST VISIT

what to expect

01

BOOK YOUR SESSION

Choose 60, 75, or 90 minutes. The 75 and 90-minute sessions give the most room to work — enough time to address problem areas with stationary cups and cover the body with mobile work. Complete your intake form before arriving so I know what you're coming in with.

02

WHAT IT FEELS LIKE

Cupping creates a pulling, stretching sensation — deep and noticeable, but not painful. Most clients describe it as pressure in reverse. Some areas feel more intense than others depending on how restricted the tissue is. If anything feels wrong, I adjust immediately. You're always in control.

03

AFTER YOUR SESSION

Circular marks where the cups were placed are normal and expected. They're not bruises, and they fade within a week or two. Drink plenty of water afterward. Some clients feel immediate mobility improvements; others notice the shift over the following day or two as the tissue settles.

questions
answered

  • It shouldn't. The sensation is a deep pulling or stretching. Noticeable and sometimes intense depending on how restricted an area is, but it shouldn't be painful. Some spots feel more pronounced than others. If anything feels wrong, the cups come off. You're always in control of the session, and I check in throughout.

  • Cupping often leaves circular marks, but not always and the intensity varies by person and by how restricted the tissue is. Some clients walk out with almost nothing; others have pronounced marks for a week or so. Either way, they're not bruises and they fade completely. If you have an event coming up where you'd rather not have visible marks on your back or shoulders, it's worth timing your session accordingly.

  • Cupping is particularly effective for people with chronic muscle tightness that hasn't responded well to traditional massage, anyone recovering from overuse or athletic training, people with restricted mobility or long-standing fascial adhesions, and those whose tissue is too sensitive or inflamed for direct pressure. If you've had massage that feels good but doesn't seem to shift the deeper tightness, cupping is often what finally moves it.

  • Drink plenty of water. Cupping increases circulation and lymphatic activity, and hydration supports the process. Eat lightly and avoid strenuous activity for the rest of the day. Some clients feel an immediate difference in mobility; others notice the shift over the following 24 to 48 hours as the tissue settles and the body responds.
